Overview

Kinabalu Park is located in the Malaysian state of Sabah in the northern part of Borneo. It is easily accessible by 2 hour drive from the state capital Kota Kinabalu.

Kinabalu Park was established as Malaysia’s first National Park in 1964 and it is also Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000 for its “outstanding universal value” and the role as one of the most important biological sites in the world with more than 4500 species of flora and fauna, including 326 bird and around 100 mammal species and over 110 land snail species. It covers an area of 754 sq km surrounding Mount Kinabalu which at 4095.2 meters is the highest mountain on the island of Borneo and South East Asia.

Kinabalu Park HQ at 1524 meters has superb chalet accommodations and restaurants with mountain views and nature trails. Explore one of the many trails that lead through tropical Montane Oak and Chestnut Forest. Kinabalu Park is a botanist’s paradise with over a thousand species of orchids, numerous different rhododendrons and pitcher plants. The birds life is equally fascinating with most species being montane, including a number of endemic.

Manukan Island is located in Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park in the East Malaysian state of Sabah, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu and is easily accessible by boat. It is the second largest island out of five islands in the National Park and the most developed tourist facilities that include chalet accommodation, restaurant and bar, swimming pool, jetty, diving and other recreation facilities.

Manukan Island has some good stretches of beaches on the southern coastline and eastern tip of the island; ideal for relaxation. Offshore of Manukan are coral reef and marine life that are very popular for swimming, snorkeling, diving and other sea sports.
